Sicily is one of the two major Italian islands, and it is the one located at the lowest latitude in the globe.
This happy position makes it very attractive even in the spring and autumn months, as well as in the hot season.
Especially the area of the Aeolian Islands, north of Sicily, the climate is generally mild, and the weather stable. You can therefore take advantage of this region to sail in the different islands and coastal stretches in different months of the year.
Where to charter a Sailboat in Sicily
The choice of a Sailboat is ideal for experiencing the Sicilian Sea and sailingin a sporty way.
From Sicily you can set sail from one of the ports to the north facing the Aeolian Islands: Capo D’Orlando Marina, Portorosa, or Palermo, or from the Egadi Islands, Trapani and Marsala. Less traveled is the southern coast of Sicily, where the new Licata marina is located.
The more experienced navigators can eventually aim to navigate in the more distant archipelagos of Pantelleria, Linosa, and Lampedusa, considering that they are still very distant from the Sicilian coast and especially from the Sicilian ports, including the closest ones such as Trapani, Marsala and Licata.
Certainly, the areas of best attraction, for the receptivity of the places, are the Aeolian Islands and the Egadi islands. The seven Aeolian Islands (Lipari, Vulcano, Salina, Panarea, Stromboli, Filicudi and Alicudi) form a variegated archipelago both for the distinct identity of the seven islands and for the wonderful bays, that can host you for your explorations. You can visit these places for weeks, you cannot be bored, indeed landscape always change and you can discover different beach or nature trails on land.
The Egadi Islands offer a less varied landscapes, in August and September stronger winds cross the islands. This particularity can be very attractive for the more sporty sailor interested in sailing in strong winds.
To visit three islands of the Egadi, Favignana, Marettimo and Levanzo, you need at least a week of sailing holiday.
The climate in Sicily and the months to sail
From a climatic point of view, Sicily is the one of the two large Italian islands that offers the highest temperatures, on average and generally good weather and sea conditions. The months of April through October, are a very long and wide seasonal period.
The hospitality of the Sicilian people, combined with its climatic characteristics and geographical position, make Sicily very attractive for the yachtsman, even in the months that are not purely summer.
